Brian Jones
Director of Manufacturing
Brian Jones is Director of Manufacturing for JW Morris.
Brian joined the firm in 1980 after working as a design engineer for Rexel, and has provided a wealth of practical engineering and man management experience to the Board.
Brian’s core discipline is Mechanical Engineering, and holds additional qualifications in Electrical Engineering, Health& Safety and Quality Assurance.
A series of promotions through Works Manager and General Manager in the High Voltage Manufacturing Division culminated in Brian’s appointment as Divisional Director in 2005, full Board Membership in 2010 and Director of Manufacturing in 2014.
As well as extensive operational responsibilities, Brian is also the designated Safety Director advising the Board on SHEQ matters.
John Hopkins
Design Consultant
John Hopkins is presently our chief Design Consultant after retiring as executive director of Morris Line Engineering in 2005. In this role John uses decades of both theoretical design knowledge and practical engineering experience to work with our full time product development team on the next generation of MLE products.
John was the General Manager and then Director of MLE for 20 years up to his retirement and in the 1980s and 1990s oversaw both the technical development of the core MLE product range and the establishment of our principal overseas markets especially in the Middle East. During this period John worked closely with Brian Jones and Steve Davies in product and business development.
Prior to joining MLE , John was a senior member of the JW Morris industrial electrical contracting department.
As a shareholder of the parent company , Morris McLellan Ltd and main board director, John brings 50 years’ business , commercial, sales and engineering experience to MLE.
Paul Osborne
Senior Divisional Manager
Paul Osborne is the Senior Divisional Manager for our High Voltage division Morris Line Engineering with responsibility for technical and commercial matters.
Paul started working for Morris Line Engineering in 1995 in the drawing office, before becoming the drawing office manager in 2005, and later becoming the contract manager in 2008. During this time Paul has developed and enhanced his knowledge and skills in the design, manufacturing and commercial aspects of high voltage switchgear in the electrical supply industry.
Paul is primarily responsible for the day to day running of the commercial office & drawing office. His duties include analysis of specifications, preparation of quotations, negotiation, in-house design, customer support, producing drawings and parts lists for new concepts and designs to suit the customer’s individual requirements.
Paul Osborne is qualified with a HND qualification in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (Power).
Mark Askins
Works Manager
Mark Askins is Works Manager at Morris Line Engineering, with his primary focus being the day to day running of shop floor production.
After successfully running his own business for several years, Mark joined MLE as a qualified welder in 1995, and was promoted to Quality Inspector in 1999 before taking up his current role as Works Manager in 2005. During this time he has developed an in-depth knowledge of the manufacturing process.
As well as Mark’s main responsibility to factory production, his other duties include quality control, health, safety and environment, compliance, human resources and press shop non-destructive testing and inspection.
Mark holds City & Guilds and Managing Safely certificates from the Institute of Occupation Health & Safety, City & Guilds Quality Assurance, Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment Foundation Certificate and a number of practical engineering qualifications.
Kelvin Wills
Production Control & Purchasing Manager
Kelvin Wills is MLE’s Production Control & Purchasing Manger with responsibility for production and procurement matters.
Kelvin took up his position at Morris Line Engineering in 1995, after a successful career in the Armed Forces. During his time with the company he has developed and enhanced his skills in the manufacturing and purchasing environments.
Kelvin‘s main duties include maintaining the bespoke in-house manufacturing software system, analysing reports, issuing manufacturing instructions, purchasing of raw materials and components from approved suppliers and liasing with suppliers on costs and delivery.
Kelvin is qualified with Licentiateship of City & Guilds (LCGI) in Aeronautical Engineering and is a member of the Institute of Line Mangers (MInstLM).
Mike Komor
Senior Commercial Engineer
Mike Komor is Senior Commercial Engineer at Morris Line Engineering and is responsible for UK and worldwide markets.
Mike joined JW Morris as an undergraduate engineer in 2006, and gained a wealth of practical and commercial experience with the Electrical & Mechanical Installation, Health & Safety, Fire Alarm, and LV Manufacturing divisions during his time there.
In 2010 Mike joined the team at MLE and provides a first point of contact for new and existing customers, giving pre-sales and after-sales techno-commercial support, analysing specifications, preparing proposals and negotiating contracts.
Mike holds a BEng (Hons) Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Glamorgan (now the University of South Wales).
Joanne Luff
International Logistics Coordinator
Joanne Luff is International Logistics Coordinator at Morris Line Engineering and oversees the company’s worldwide logistics operations.
Joanne has worked in the Contracts Office since 1997 and arranges despatch of equipment manufactured by MLE for delivery to customers throughout the UK and the rest of the world. She has significant experience in export practices, including documentary letters of credit, Incoterms and customs procedures.
Joanne is primarily responsible for preparing transport documentation for presentation to customers and international financial institutions. Her other duties include customer service, order processing, record keeping and ensuring that MLE uses the most efficient freight forwarders possible.
Throughout her career Joanne has kept up to date on the latest practices and procedures by attending training courses endorsed by the South Wales Chamber of Commerce.
Richard Stone
Design Draughtsman
Richard Stone is Design Draughtsman at MLE and has extensive knowledge of product design.
Richard joined the company in 2005, having spent ten years designing distribution transformers for the power industry.
With a career starting in 1979, Richard has also worked as a design draughtsman in a wide range of manufacturing industries including heavy machinery, aerospace and health.
Richard is primarily responsible for using computer aided design software to produce drawings and parts lists covering initial design through to manufacture. Other duties include issuing manufacturing instructions, drawing maintenance, technical backup to Sales and Marketing and liasing with shop floor personnel, sub-suppliers and customers.
Richard is qualified with a HNC in Mechanical and Production Engineering and City & Guilds in 3D Computer Aided Design.
Nigel Jones
Sales, Marketing & Technical Engineer
Nigel began employment at MLE in 1996 and held a number of positions within the Production Department before his appointment to his current position in 2010. During his time with the company Nigel has invaluable excellent technical knowledge of the products manufactured, and has also developed project engineering skills and an excellent understanding of health and safety requirements in high voltage environments.
Nigel is committed to giving all customers the high quality equipment and excellent service they have come to expect from the company. With this is mind he leads MLE’s in-house installation team and has recently been overseen major installation and maintenance projects at National Grid, Network Rail and Tata sites.
Nigel’s knowledge and practical experience of the complete product range makes him a key member of the team responsible for proving new equipment, and as such he has witnessed extensive type testing at high voltage laboratories in the Netherlands and the Czech Republic.
Chris Newton
Development Engineer
Chris Newton is Development Engineer at MLE, with his primary focus being the supervision of all research and development operations.
Chris joined the company as an apprentice toolmaker in 1976 and, for 19 years following the completion of his training, was involved in the design and manufacture of press tooling, jigs and fixtures required for the production of switchgear and motor drives. He took up his current position as Development Engineer in 2010, following a 14 year break working in automotive research and development.
Chris is responsible for the design and development of new products to support the individual requirements of worldwide customers in the utilities, petrochemical and rail sectors, overseeing the manufacture of prototypes and the type testing of new equipment.
Chris has extensive knowledge of the MLE product range and provides customer and technical support as well as being a senior member of the in-house installation team.
